Yes, it is worth trying to make vanilla glibc-2.6 work. I thought I
had filed an elf/elf.h patch in the upstream glibc bugzilla, but I
can't find the bug number. I've posted the patch multiple times. It's
on my list to repost.

Note that because sometime compiles OK doesn't mean it actually
functions. Did you have any test failures?
