Ok. IIRC, On C3000 "SCSI" is the external SE SCSI port.

Can stop the boot and interact with "ISL"?
I want to know if ISL is still intact on the FWSCSI.6.0 disk.

That basically means palo wasn't installed.
Sounds like this is the disk you wanted to install linux on.

This is probably asking too much given your current experience...
don't worry about it (yet) unless we can't get anything else to work.

I doubt you did something wrong since the installer is pretty straight
forward. Sounds like a problem with the installer but it's not obvious
to me what.
If the C3000 has internet access and you have time, it would be worth
trying the "netinst CD" for Debian "testing" installer images from here:
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/
