Ah, interesting: so you experiment same kind of message on 32bit kernel too?
But did it make hanging your system as it made for me on 64bit kernel?
That said, some time ago I disabled all debugging feature (iirc because of sad
loop in DEBUG_SLAB, btw tausq is it fixed now?) but that just removed "BUG()
..." message and the system still exposed various hang at various places
(according to piminfo analyse). That was obviously an old pb (2.6.12-rc1 ;-)),
anyway that experience let me a bit septic.

Eventhough it wasn't a default, I frequently test it ;-) (As far as time allow
me, I build and test the 2 kernels and reports pb is neccessary)
