It was always the rule that you didn't want to use a 64bit kernel on
machines that support 32 and 64bit kernels unless the machine has more
than ~ 4GB of memory.  Generally, 32bit code performs better.

I also think we still have some issues with respect to get_user and
put_user in transferring longs and pointers.  Using a 64bit kernel on
a workstation might expose more of these issues.
