256MB would help avoid this problem.
Using a newer kernel would too.
Recent news seemed to indicate a new Debian Installer
should be available in the next couple of days.
If you could, my preference would be you test the new installer
when it becomes available (2.6.15-4 kernel).

But adding more memory would be a good idea in general
and I reccomend it for that reason as well.
