Hmm just: a quick look in src and effectively in mainly pppd/sys-linux.c
test errno != EWOULDBLOCK (for sys-sunos4.c we met more (errno != EAGAIN
&& errno != EWOULDBLOCK) 
I am curious if some change occurs about this in cvs?
