Could you change kernel/printk.c, line 36 from:
#define DEFAULT_CONSOLE_LOGLEVEL 7 /* anything MORE serious than KERN_DEBUG */
to:
#define DEFAULT_CONSOLE_LOGLEVEL 9 /* anything MORE serious than KERN_DEBUG */

This should print out more debug messages and might help diagnose the problem.
