This breaks the default cross-compiling case of using "make palo" as the kernel is named vmlinux and you get the following on boot, Warning: kernel name doesn't end with 32 or 64... Guessing 32 Couldn't grok your kernel executable format failed to load kernel palo needs to figure this out a different way based on the kernel itself. According to Paul the work around for now is to change your kernel command line to be specific (add 32 or 64 to the end of the kernel name like 0/vmlinux64). -- Matt Taggart Linux Development Lab taggart@fc.hp.com HP Linux Systems Operation --------------------------------------- Received: (at 138-done) by bugs.parisc-linux.org; 2 Nov 2001 00:27:36 +0000 >From bame@fc.hp.com Thu Nov 1 17:27:36 2001 Received: from atlrel7.hp.com (atlrel7.hp.com [192.151.27.9]) by dsl2.external.hp.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id C6966482B for <138-done@bugs.parisc-linux.org>; Thu, 1 Nov 2001 17:27:35 -0700 (MST) Received: from ldl.fc.hp.com (unknown [15.1.50.190]) by atlrel7.hp.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2860E1F551 for <138-done@bugs.parisc-linux.org>; Thu, 1 Nov 2001 19:24:58 -0500 (EST) Received: from noam.fc.hp.com (noam.fc.hp.com [15.1.52.69]) by ldl.fc.hp.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id C12E34391 for <138-done@bugs.parisc-linux.org>; Thu, 1 Nov 2001 17:27:33 -0700 (MST) Received: from bame by noam.fc.hp.com with local (Exim 3.32 #1 (Debian)) id 15zSBJ-0005nB-00 for <138-done@bugs.parisc-linux.org>; Thu, 01 Nov 2001 17:27:33 -0700 To: 138-done@bugs.parisc-linux.org Subject: fixed long ago to work in x-compile case Message-Id: From: Paul Bame Date: Thu, 01 Nov 2001 17:27:33 -0700 From daniel_frazier@hp.com Fri Nov 2 00:33:02 2001 From: daniel_frazier@hp.com (PA-RISC Linux bug Tracking System) Date: Thu, 1 Nov 2001 17:33:02 -0700 (MST) Subject: [palinux-palo] bug#145: marked as done (palo needed on non-pa systems for debian-cd) In-Reply-To: References: <20010903143540.A11744@linuxcare.com> Message-ID: X-PA-RISC Linux-PR-Message: closed 145 Your message dated Thu, 01 Nov 2001 17:31:34 -0700 with message-id and subject line fixed in palo-0.94 has caused the attached bug report to be marked as done. It is likely it needs to be packaged for i386, at least. The problem is that a parisc (cross)compiler is needed to generate the ipl code part of the palo build. A proposed solution from Bdale is to include the ipl code binary in the source package, and only regenerate it if building on parisc. Alternatively make it some section/priority that is acceptable to everyone, and rely on debootstrap pulling it in anyway during install. Leaving things as they are and expecting people to build it themselves for non-hppa is a possibility, but I don't know whether Debian will accept thatwhen they come to build official woody release CDs.
