It's possible nticks == 0 since we have the following code in time.c: ... gettimeoffset (void) { #ifndef CONFIG_SMP /* * FIXME: This won't work on smp because jiffies are updated by cpu 0. * Once parisc-linux learns the cr16 difference between processors, * this could be made to work. */ .... #else return 0; #endif } Not sure yet if that's the problem really...need to work this out more. It's possible the "nticks=0" assignment in timer_interrupt() should really be "nticks=1" since we in fact are processing the next tick. thanks, grant From daniel_frazier@hp.com Mon Nov 26 21:48:01 2001 From: daniel_frazier@hp.com (PA-RISC Linux bug Tracking System) Date: Mon, 26 Nov 2001 14:48:01 -0700 (MST) Subject: [kernel] bug#153: marked as done (2.4.14-SMP has no time) In-Reply-To: <200111262142.OAA10726@puffin.external.hp.com> References: <200111262142.OAA10726@puffin.external.hp.com> <20011124195720.A19391@parcelfarce.linux.theplanet.co.uk> Message-ID: X-PA-RISC Linux-PR-Message: closed 153 Your message dated Mon, 26 Nov 2001 14:42:45 -0700 with message-id <200111262142.OAA10726@puffin.external.hp.com> and subject line -pa11 committed has caused the attached bug report to be marked as done. It appears that the length of what lesspipe outputs is the culprit, as I've experimented with several other eval's and backticks and whatnot and everything else worked, except for things like this: eval `perl -e 'print "a" x 2000'` But then, this hangs, too: eval `perl -e 'print "a" x 1'` It's kinda puzzling. Maybe the different types of quotes are bugging it? The kernel is: Linux paer 2.4.14-64-smp #1 SMP Mon Nov 26 19:13:46 MST 2001 parisc64 unknown -- 2. That which causes joy or happiness. I see this in the build log for 4.0.4-4, which would indicate the kernel problem. checking if POSIX sigsuspend() works... no The log for 4.0.4-3 indicates that it wasn't built, so I can't see what happened there. If there is a discrepancy, I would think that rebuilding with a working kernel would solve the problem. If not, there is another issue.
